What is the opportunity?

The Information Technology Services branch (ITS) provides the IT services to the BC Pension Corporation including; IT Operations, Application Development & Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Deployment and Mid-tier, and Service Management. Services are delivered from a team of dedicated contributors who provide ongoing support and transformational services to facilitate the execution of the 12/21 corporate strategy. The Intermediate Business Systems Analyst is a key member of the IT team that provides expert advice, support and technical expertise to business representatives and technical staff (project managers, solution architects, developers and quality assurance personnel) in managing the design, development and enhancement of the core business applications of the Pension Corporation. This position provides advice and ensures understanding in areas of business analysis, systems design, support and IT leadership to clients. The Intermediate Business Systems Analyst gathers business requirements, interprets them, develops and implements technical/functional specifications.

This is a developmental opportunity where the successful applicant will be appointed to either the Intermediate Business Systems Analyst IS21 level or IS24 level, depending on their education, skills, abilities and experience relevant to the position. With a structured learning and training plan and subject to satisfactory performance, incumbents appointed at the IS21 level are expected to attain the level and qualifications of the Intermediate BSA (IS24) within 18 months.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

Developmental Level (IS21):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology and six months of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline and (1) year of related experience; OR
  • Certificate and (3) years of related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and (4) years of related experience.
  • A minimum of six months recent practical experience, including working with functional specifications for information systems.

Intermediate Level (IS24):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology and (2) years of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline and (3) years of related experience; OR
  • Certificate and (4) years of related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and (5) years of related experience. AND;
  • A minimum of two years' of recent practical experience that includes:
    • Developing business systems / functional specifications for large custom applications / systems;
    • Delivering systems enhancement and maintenance activities within demanding timelines;
    • Experience in gathering and documenting business requirements / functional specifications; and
    • Working with change management.

Nice-to-have

  • Pension industry, pension plan and pension administration application experience or similar large custom application experience would be considered and asset.
